Just been out in the rain for 2 minutes- it's still coming down and I thought it had suddenly gone cooler. I wasn't just imagining it- went down from 20C to 16C in an hour just up the road at Shawbury

I wonder what caused this? We didn't get such a drop from the front yesterday.

Narrowly missed a potentially torrential downpour.

I was sitting at my laptop just doing my normal stuff when I heard a huge 'Wow' said by some kids in the street. I looked out and I could see the biggest downpour - possibly a microburst since the 11th January 2004. I chased after it and looked down a moor road and literally yards away, was the edge of the downdraught. However, where I stood, one spot of rain hit my nose. I'll post a photograph.

Here's the beastie I photographed whilst on the moors. I had to rush home to make sure it didn't deluge on me.

As I type, the downpour has actually started up and it's BUCKETING down with rain and I think there's a bit of hail mixed in.

After the unexpected thundery showers we now have an odd situation where overhead and to the East the sky is very dark and showery, but the sun is setting into clear skies and is shining brightly  .

Breezy from the WNW, temp now a fresh 17c after a max of 22c.

Dry and clear with a cheesy-coloured full moon. Lots of stars but suddenly chilly. Maybe a frost tomorrow.......................................................Sorry, did I say a frost? No, I actually meant temperatures into single figures.

Report for Friday 19th August 2005, Readings taken at 23:55.

After a thoroughly wet night the morning started off overcast but dry. It was by the afternoon before the cloud started to break a little, allowing some hazy sunshine. The remainder of the afternoon and the evening have seen mostly cloudy skies, with occasional sunny spells. It remained below 16°C for almost the entire day, only reaching the maximum late on during a sunny spell. Nevertheless, it was a cool day and quite a contrast from yesterday. Despite this, it felt quite uncomfortable, mainly due to much higher humidity compared to the past few days.

Current Temp: 14.6°C

Max Temp: 19.1°C (at 16:56)

Min Temp: 14.6°C (Current)

Humidity: 74%

Min Humidity: 66% (at 17:48)

Pressure: 1016.4hPa (Rising)

Dewpoint: 10.0°C

Wind: NW (2mph)

Rain Today: 5.1mm

My August average currently stands at 17.0°C (+0.6°C Above the 1971-2000 average).
