Very Intense Rainfall reported.

Autumn Greetings

Recommended Posts

My parents recorded some very intense rain this Lunchtime, around 13:00 p.m.

Earlier on this morning it was dry and Sunny here in Bristol. Therefore the summary provided by the BBC Weather Centre mentioning a band of rain moving SE, heavy in places, surprised me when I saw it. I was not aware of a forecast for much rain for today, in the previous days' forecasts.

Apparently, 0.80 inches fell in twenty minutes, with almost all of this falling within ten nimutes! My parents live in the western Mendip Hills, by the way, about 10 miles inland from the Bristol Channel.

Let's say 0.70 inches had fallen there in 10 minutes - this yields an intensity of around 4.20 inches per hour - impressive even for an intense summer thunderstorm, yet alone towards the end of September!

No thunder and lightning was observed, which is quite unusual for such intense precipitation on an active cold front.

I would welcome any reports concerning today's intense precipitation (posted on this "Current Conditions" subject area).

Andrew.

Andrew, I'm Andy, living in Westbury, Wilts approx 25 miles SE of Bristol.

There was a spell of intense rain here around 1330 so that falls in line with your parents recording.

Have you ran the radar sequence for the day to see how narrow yet intense the rain band was over our area?

Its Andrew of the BBC board isnt it! :D

That is some serious rainfall! Nothing that heavy here, just the odd heavy downpour that made the ground very slippery.

Lo, A,G Welcome to the forums, There has been some tornadoes reported from this front.

Looks like it did indeed intinsify as it moved south.

the rainfall where I live up here in the north west has not been that intense, Except for some which I observed this morning, Visibillity turned very low as a result.
