EDITED 4:30 pm: Rain has stopped, nimbostratus has rapidly moved away to the NE. Some overhead brightness, but still lots of thick altostratus and a blustery SW wind. Looks like the warm front has passed over then! More rain ahead of the cold front, I bet, by this evening.

Woke up to a glroious start with clear blue skies and sunshine. Stayed sunny until 10.00 then clouded over and became increasingly dull. The wind picked up by lunchtime and it rained very heavily for an hour but is now coming down steadily with gusts of 35MPH. Current temperature 9C after a high of 16C. Brrr.

So far, no rain in my part of Essex. Its 8.35pm and the rain was forcast to arrive at 6.00pm. Looking at the radar, its splitting and once agin we will get very little - current totol here is 24.1mm this month, all in one shower!

Got down to 6.5C this afternoon at Milnathort, Kinrosshire. Driving slats of rain and windy (force 5/6? - some small twigs blown off trees beside exposed country roads) Thought there might have been some sleet mixed in the rain.

I work outside in all weathers and that's the first time I've had to give in this autumn and retreat to the greenhouse for a hot coffee - it was only 10C in there!
