Bridgend, South wales:-

Flash flooding form mondays rain still evident, some severe. A local river (river Ogmore) has burst it's banks in localised areas, one such area being a historic dipping bridge at Merthyr Mawr, making the road impassable. I can't get a ahot of the flooding where tha banks have burst (too dark) but I think you can work it out from what it usually looks like... ogbridge.jpg

Getting quite gusty on the wins - occasional heavy showers.

This is what the River Ogmore usually looks like...

And here's what it looks like at the moment in Bridgend itself...

It's under a flood warning right now, and the river runs through te main town in a concrete walled "culvert". However, it's very very high at the moment, with the water of three of the south wales valleys in it. The flood map on the environment agency webside indicates that it CAN flood outside of that culvert and into the main town (that would be a hell of a sight!). I just hope that we don't get enough water in it to make that possible.

Started raining now...we've just caught the EDGE of a convectional shower, hence the rain is reasonably light.

3 words - Bright and Breezy. Had a heavy shower at about 7.30 this morning but now sunny with light clouds. I thought they said heavy showers. I've read 15mm from last night's heavy rain and this morning's shower.

Moderate intensity showers (with the occasional heavy burst) have penetrated the mighty force-field to a certain extent. However...despite all the rainfall, we are still on the edge of these cells. God knows how heavy it is 10 miles south and west...

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
