Hazy sunshine until early afternoon, since then a gradual clouding over with light rain now. Max 6c, which is what it is now, having been stuck at 3-5c for most of the day. Calm all day.

Chilly at 1c. Clear but cloud to the west. If temps drop enough, do you think we may get something wintry as the rain band hits the cooler air?

I doubt it. As the weather forecast has just said - the temperature will rise as the cloud encroaches. Lows of 5-6C typically over the southern half of the UK.

Started off lovely today with clear skies, a hard frost and a low of -3C. The cloud increased as the day wore on from cirrus to cirrostratus to startus to cumulus and then at 3.30 it started to rain! Just as I was walking to the bus - it deluged big time on me. Top temperature was 6C.

A white frost and slippery surfaces all morning, with plenty of blue skies and sunshine. Thin high cloud gradually took over from the west around midday - and thickened steadily this afternoon. The rain arrived at around 5:30 pm.

Currently overcast with fair visibility and light rain, SE breeze at 7 mph. Rather raw, at 5º c.

Looks like a very damp night ahead.

pity there is no wintry reports thread, although thats understandable as it sisnt widespread. However the very beginning of the rainband had a few flakes of snow intermixed - but there was also general sleet.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
