Did you know it is now 20 years since our last subzero month in England. Feb 1986 was a bitter month with freezing tempertures yet it happend in an average winter. there was no severe cold in Dec or Jan that year. Another Famous Feb was 1991. Again that year the winter was normal yet in feb there was a period of severe coold and snow brought on by biting east winds. so there plenty of time yet this winter for a major severe spell to occure. An intertesting point this winter so far is that we have had no long run of very mild weather even with the Atlantic in control. Tempertures so far in the East have really struggled to get up 10C by day.

The last point is a very good one ! Here in midlands, since november the 18th we have only had 12 days where the temp. has risen above 6c . we have had 5 days of snow falling and 3 days of snow lying, albeit not a great amount. In my book this has been the coldest winter for 10years and certanly most night frosts since the late 80s totaling 22 to date !!

If you want cold in wetern Europe wait a week :D

The gfs will soon point to cold so next year when we,re down in a depression about "mild" on this day no doubt we can reminnse about how a severe cold spell ROARED out of the east like a Frieght train out of control :)

Horrible winter it has been in Finland, too mild again. Our last below -30 C winter in Helsinki was 2003

Now it has been some days of +1, coldest has been only -14 C.

But you would like this weather in UK wouldn't you :)

I'm happy to have AKI RIKHILLATI at the Palace..........That's the only Fin we need top player and person...

Feb 1986 had a CET of -1.0C and was dominated by easterly winds throughout.

Reports suggested that it wasn't a very snowy month, but it would appear to have been snowy enough over much of eastern Britain, with snow flurries penetrating to north-west England at times. Snow lay for well over half the month at Durham.

    • Wet March so far with more rain for the rest of the month, but hints of more settled weather early April

It's been a wet March for much of the UK, with well above average rainfall, though the Northern & Western Isles have been drier than average. Despite a colder drier respite on Monday, staying generally unsettled to see out the rest of the month. But hints of some drier weather in early April. Read the full update here
