We had a snow shower at around midnight, which left us with a covering. Nothing other than a few flurries until 10am this morning when it started snowing properly, but blowing around a lot. It's still quite light but settling where it can.

Light to moderate small snow flakes falling. Very slowly getting heavier since it started at 9am. It has settled on all but the road surfaces here. The band of snow is moving very, very slowly east and we are still on the edge of it.

Woke at 6.15am light dusting of snow on roofs and cars. Went back to bed and got back up at 10am (lovely lye-in :) ) only to find the snow had gone and it looked like it hadn't even been here!

No snow in Glossop at 815 this morning, but heavy "blizzard" like conditions with a good 1 to 2 inches now, and looking promising for the rest of the day :)

Something strange is happening in our valley. we did have snow early this morning but its now melted and the temperature is 3.3C where everywhere else in the whole of the north of england is at or below freezing. take a look at this http://www.wunderground.com/stationmaps/gm...gic=1&wmo=03222 i'm the warm one!. the valley normally holds the cold but this time we sem to be in a heat sink! anyone care to explain. Its def not my station as all the snow has melted.

Approx 1cm of snow earlier this morning, about 7/8 o'clock.

All gone now, of course.

It snows. And it goes.

Getting lighter here in Whitwick now and thawing faster than it's settling thanks to surface temperatures of 2ºC, despite air temperature being around -1ºC. That's March for you I suppose!

As expected, it's snowing in Buxton!

Strange icy snow for about 4 hours (however even this had settled to 1.5 to 2 inches),

now turned to nice, big flakes. Conditions are dire at present and not getting any better.

Snowing here (and showed at around 7:30, so I'm reliably informed), but nothing like hard enough to settle.

Snowing when I got home from a party at 2am, and still snowing when I got up an hour ago! About 6 inches on the patio now. Must be the only time Ellesmere Port has looked attractive, when it's buried under snow!

The weather is magic!

A good 2cm covering by 09.00. All gone by 11.00 with no sunshine, no rise in temperature but a brisk breeze. Everything is dry, even the grass, anyone getting up late will have had no idea it had snowed :) .

well its still a continual blizzard up on the hills of Oldham & Saddleworth... several

inches now since 07:00, but is quite deceptive due to the drifting. Some pics just

taken within the past few hours below

Much the same conditions here in Buxton!

Anyone walking today must be releived when they reach the warm, isolated comfort of the Cat & Fiddle!

Nice big flakes falling and the frontal band appears to have stalled over Buxton and your area according to Met Office radar.

Saw a guided group of hikers getting ready earlier today - rather them than me!

Continuous light snow here in Stratosside since before 8am. Yet another variant today: this stuff looks like powdered rice: surfaces are frozen dry so it's blowing off the patio and track, and generally blowing around in a gusty wind. Intensity no more than 10-15, and I'm sure some of that is just the surface being whipped up. Can't be more than 1cm. For the snowless majority it might seem churlish to complain, however it's yet another example this winter of a snow day not producing that much really despite considerable effort. On the other hand, by recent national standards, this would be a decent event at any time of winter; coming in mid-March it's notewothy.

Identical to what we've got here, just on the Yorkshire side of the Pennines about 10 miles east of you. Some nice drifting as well, and very little melt as yet (I guess the ground is that much colder up here - I do love living at a decent altitude sometimes !).
