After a cloudy and misty morning the afternoon has been unexpectedly fine with plenty of (hazy at times) sunshine. A brisk WNW breeze and max of 13c.

Sunshine and prolonged showers here today. The showers were very heavy and mixed with hail and gusty winds which made it feel very cold. Felt much milder in sunny spells.

Lovely winter sunset over the Moray Firth tonight with the snow shower clouds to the north tinged red. Remeniscent of a frosty February evening, currently -1c and falling. Looks as though it will be a few weeks yet before we can turn the cattle out to green growing grass.Country is very bare and not green and the daffodils are only just starting to flower in south facing locations.

Very heavy hailstorm about 30 mins ago, that was surprising enough, Just under 1cm accumulated before melting, most surprising was a spell of wet snow at the end of its heaviest period in which the temperature dropped close to freezing, amazing spectacle - currently raining, 5C
