I really doubt the team are still in Beckham County.. They are probably on the move which is why they havn't been posting here... I'm sure they are on one storm or another :D

Would be nice to be able to track their movement :)

Out of interest.. the Colorado City storm had 2 tornadoes reported with it at once earlier...

here's the report

...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 600 PM CDT FOR NORTHERN MITCHELL COUNTY... AT 527 PM CDT...TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED TWO TORNADOES. ONE TORNADO WAS LOCATED 1 MILE WEST OF THE WEST INTERCHANGE IN COLORADO CITY. THE OTHER TORNADO WAS NEAR THE POWER PLANT ON HIGHWAY 163...5 MILES SOUTH OF COLORADO CITY. THE TORNADOES WERE MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 10 MPH.

The team can only reply when they are near a wifi hotspot, and I doubt they'll desert a storm to find a library / motel etc just to let us know what they are missing :D

another thing... Storms colliding isn't a good thing as far as storm chasing goes. The storms lose structure, and are less likely to produce tornadoes. An ideal supercell is discrete, with as much distance between it and the next storm.

No problem.. A storm is just a giant heat engine, and it needs to be able to breath to fuel itself. If other storms are close by, they block inflow into the storm. This is why the southern most storms of a complex are usually the best targets, as there are no storms south of it to obstruct inflow. You can see that perfectly today in the way the Mitchell County cell has dropped several tubes whilst being unobstructed to the south. You'll see the phrase Tail End Charlie been mentioned a lot over the next few weeks I bet :D

Hi guys as Gorky has quite rightly said, we simply cannot post whilst on the Chase, these things last about 6 hours minimum, anyhow we went to Shamrock and dropped south on Highway 83 to Childress, dodged some Baseball Hail and folled the storm east of Childress that sucked everything up breifly before being absorbed itself by the Guthrie Storm, have some great shots and Video Upload of us sitting in the Bears Cage, crazy rotation above our heads and ear splitting thunder, today can only be defined as too Many Supercells vying for the best environment. Dave Ewoldt and Hank Baker chased with us today and told s we were soooo close to a Tornado but highest Thunderstorm winds about 75mph. Will put together a Chase report soon and try the Video Upload. At least Ozzie saw at least 2 Supercells today. He has broken his duck.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

1248 AM CDT WED MAY 03 2006

VALID 031200Z - 041200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS FROM THE TX PANHANDLE TO SRN

IL...

...TX PANHANDLE TO WRN IL...

LARGE SCALE FLOW WILL PROVE SOMEWHAT NEBULOUS FOR SIGNIFICANT SEVERE

THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT FROM THE SRN PLAINS INTO IL WED AS STRONGER

FLOW HOLDS ACROSS THE NRN U.S. IN ASSOCIATION WITH UPPER TROUGH OVER

MN. HOWEVER...EARLY MORNING WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SUGGESTS SPLIT FLOW

REGIME PERSISTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY WITH EMBEDDED DISTURBANCES

TRAVERSING FROM THE SWRN U.S. WITHIN THE WEAKER FLOW TOWARDS THE SRN

PLAINS. THIS SHOULD ENHANCE VERTICAL ASCENT ACROSS MODERATELY

UNSTABLE AIRMASS OVER THE SRN PLAINS FOR ANOTHER EPISODE OF SEVERE

THUNDERSTORMS BY LATE AFTERNOON.

...MO TO IL...

EARLY IN THE PERIOD...THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD BE ONGOING ALONG SFC

FRONT ACROSS KS INTO SRN IA. THIS ACTIVITY WILL LIKELY PROPAGATE

SEWD INTO SERN MO/WRN IL WHERE BOUNDARY LAYER AIRMASS

MOISTENING/DESTABILIZATION SHOULD ALLOW FOR RENEWED UPDRAFT

INTENSIFICATION. INITIALLY...SFC DEW POINTS ARE QUITE DRY ACROSS

THIS REGION BUT WITH TIME SHOULD RISE INTO THE 60S ACROSS MO BEFORE

SPREADING INTO SRN IL AHEAD OF CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT. MODELS

DIFFER SOMEWHAT IN REGARDS TO THE EVOLUTION OF THIS ACTIVITY. GIVEN

THE LATEST TRENDS IT APPEARS MUCH OF THE SLIGHT RISK REGION WILL

REMAIN CONVECTIVE-FREE UNTIL MID DAY WHEN BOUNDARY LAYER HEATING

WILL AID UPDRAFT VIGOR. LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS WILL LIKELY

ACCOMPANY SQUALL LINE INTO THE EARLY EVENING HOURS.

...SRN PLAINS...

UPSTREAM ACROSS THE SRN PLAINS...LEFT OVER CONVECTIVE DEBRIS FROM

TUE NIGHT THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY WILL GREATLY INFLUENCE BOUNDARY

LAYER MODIFICATION EARLY IN THE PERIOD. AT THIS TIME A GREAT DEAL

OF CONVECTION IS ONGOING ACROSS TX INTO SERN OK. THE DEGREE OF

DISRUPTION ON MOISTURE FIELD WILL NOT BE EVIDENT UNTIL LATER IN THE

MORNING. IT APPEARS THUNDERSTORMS WILL DISSIPATE BEFORE SUNRISE

WHICH WILL ALLOW 60S DEW POINTS TO RETURN ACROSS NWRN TX AND OK

AHEAD OF SFC FRONT. ALTHOUGH SFC WIND SHIFT WILL SURGE INTO THE NRN

TX PANHANDLE...IT APPEARS STRONG HEATING WILL DEVELOP FROM THE TX

SOUTH PLAINS...NEWD INTO CNTRL OK STEEPENING LAPSE RATES AND

REMOVING ALL BUT NEGLIGIBLE INHIBITION BY MID AFTERNOON. WEAK

SHORTWAVE RIDGING WILL FLATTEN BY 00Z AS ANOTHER DISTURBANCE ADVECTS

TOWARD THE TX PANHANDLE. THIS SHOULD INDUCE ANOTHER ROUND OF

SIGNIFICANT THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT WHICH WILL SPREAD/DEVELOP EWD

INTO OK DURING THE EVENING HOURS. FORECAST SOUNDINGS...BASED ON

ABOVE MOISTURE SCENARIO...WILL YIELD 3000 J/KG CAPE WITHIN SHEARED

PROFILES THAT APPEAR SUPPORTIVE OF SEVERE MULTICELL CLUSTERS AND

ISOLATED SUPERCELLS. GIVEN THE DEGREE OF INSTABILITY

EXPECTED...SUPERCELLS ARE LIKELY EARLY IN STORM EVOLUTION.

EXTREMELY LARGE HAIL IS EXPECTED WITH THESE STORMS BEFORE CLUSTERING

FORCES ONE OR MORE MCS'S TO EVOLVE. ACTIVITY SHOULD LINGER WELL

INTO THE NIGHT AS LLJ REMAINS FOCUSED...IMPINGING ON THE LARGE SCALE

FRONTAL ZONE JUST NORTH OF THE RED RIVER REGION

..DARROW/GRAMS.. 05/03/2006

Good luck on the chase Steve, look forward to hearing how it goes :)

Thanks chap will try and give some reports, its normally the day after when your waiting for the next show that you might have time to catch up on a few emails, thats if yer not driving of course ----then it gets a bit difficult :)

Yeah... have a safe trip... Hope the season carries on the way its started!!

Cheers, I must admit im looking forward to the flight like being run over by a bus!!! it is sooooooo long but hey if yer like flying over Canada have fun ----it takes forever :) but then yer crossing the great lakes and into the spine of North America and you know that the bulk of the journey is done :-) the slight concirn is that our connecting flight to OKC lands at 18:11 and with 50% chance of Tstorms kicking off to the west it could be a little rocky :) what Im hoping for is to get in get the car get down the road to "Norman" Ok and get sorted as far as dumping luggage in the room then if the lightning gods are very kind a fantastic light show for our tired soles to enjoy :)

Just to let you know Paul Sherman has got some amazing Video of Lightning Hitting about 500 metres behind the Car with Instant Thunder, we will try to Upload it when we have a break in proceedings, what with late finishes after Storm Chases and uploading Chase Logs and Pictures from Cameras we have not had time yet, but we should pretty soon.

Cheers
