Lovely warm day with a high of 26.1C after last night's fireworks. Still sunny now but black clouds about 5 miles away and distant thunder.

Drove under some very active cloud down the M5 (Jct 21-25) at about 6pm but back in Yeovil the weather is great and not looking threatening at all.

Got quite dark towards the east (Dorset) at about 7pm but now only very thin cloud cover. Met Office radar, as last night, shows all the activity towards North Somerset :( .

Still very warm outside, in fact much warmer outside than in! Think the chance of a storm has pasted now but will cross everything. Have even got the living room light on (unnecessarily) as a very unscientific guide to any lightning (it flickered about 6 times last night, even though only very quiet thunder and no nearby lightning observed) .

A very warm and humid day with unbroken sunshine. A thunderstrom rumbled away to the east of me for 3 hours, before petering out. The cloud that produced the thunderstorm is actually STILL in the same position as it was 4 hours ago, but all activity from it has stopped. It looked like it was going to come over earlier, but it remained stationary. Apart from this cloud, it is clear and warm.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
