Certainly its the loop currenty that strengthens hurricanes much more then most other places in the tropics, however its also the case that there hasn't been that much wamring of the loop current and that the only difference to 2005 and a normal hurricane season was deep in the Gulf of Mexico the current got, but thats got notyhing to do with GW and moree a case of cycles in the ocean currents, of which I can't say is my strong point!

I tend to think though that indeed the loop current is key, you only have to look at how often storms undergo eyewall replacement cycles and massivly weaken as the systems MPI rises dramtically, and in response the system can;t keep its power up and has to weaken a sa response, time and time again it happens, Opal, Rita, Katrina just to name a few.
