    I was in Lynmouth the other weekend, for the music festival, sipping delicious ales and sweltering in the searing sun. I found it impossible to imagine the wall of water cascading through the village, destroying everything in its path, after 9 inches of rain fell in 24 hours on its already saturated Exmoor catchment.

    That is extremely intresting. I wouldn't like to see a similar event again and I could imagine London thames Barriar could even be breched if thwe surge was strong enough.

    A very interesting read overall - and then of Boscastle took its toll 52 years later. If you visit Lynmouth you can go along to the hall dedicated to the Flood of 1952 on the sea front. There's a lot on in there with photographs and accounts of the actual event.
