:D:D:D Sorry could not resist ... not a hope, not a chance!! I would be the first to get excited if it did mind!

Hi S.F.B. !

I would echo your incredulity but add that these 'disturbances ' do present downstream in one way or another. Maybe this ,when absorbed into the next weather system, will reinforce the Icelandic low that helped feed up all the heat recently and present us with a re-run and another bite at the all time temp. record!!! ;)

Beryl is presently still a 60mph tropical storm however the structure has changed quite a lot and now it looks more like one of those N.Atlantic hurricanes from last autumn that were so far north. Convection has really plused downwards in the southern section of the system as SSt's decrease and the main convection is to the NE of the system. Weakening of the system looks like its being helped by the recent increase in shear which is now showing up with the outflow strengthening again in the N.Quad. However also worth remembering when a system turns extra-tropical al lthe convection tend sto switch to the northern side and the southern side becomes bare. Thats what is happening now and the models are forecasting Beryl to go extra-tropical quite shortly and this is the first sign of this occuring as it hits MUCH cooler waters off the gulf stream.

System should come mighty close to Cape Cod region and should stil lcontain winds of 45-50mph and gusts possibly upto 55-60mph but this is ultra-depenadant on the system not turning extra-tropical before landfall, as this is a strong possiblty given how little convection is presently over the system and given its location and the strengthening shear levels.

By the way, yes this system wil lhave to be watched aeven after it turn ET, because its track will highly impact on our weather.

The only way i see that Beryl could make landfall as a tropical system in Europe is if it gets a big boost from the warm waters of East America, and then sustain itself at hurricane intensity whilst moving across the Atlantic, and then boost itself slightly on the above average waters around west Ireland. The Atlantic SSTs are above average though, but they'd have to be 21c or above to be even remotley favourable, and thats without other factors thrown in.

If we all turn west, aim at the northern side of the system, and blow really really hard all at once, we might be able to keep it spinning untill it reaches us.

... OK, yes, I thought that might be a bit of a longshot.

Beryl is dying a death already. Forecast to skirt Eastern Long Island tonight and Cape Cod into tomorrow. They've had heavier rain over the spring, and the winds are nothing dramatic. The biggest effect seems to be on the height of the surf!
