I remember being there in 84-5 and watching England bake with a se gale, rain and a max of 13C at Lerwick/Sullom Voe.!

I found it almost impossible to sleep when I went home for a couple of days near Manchester.

Clear blue sky up here with a temp of 25 C on the west side of the island.

We are just not used to temperatures like this here, oh for a good old Hebrides gale!

On the east side where there is a light breeze blowing off the Minches it is only 19 C

currently 34.4c, with a high of 36.1c in the shade! absolutely unbearable heat. clear sky, wall to wall.

highest temperature since 10th August 2003, and the hottest july day since 1911.

2nd heatwave in 3 years, not looking good as far as global warming is concerned - i mean heatwaves so often!

Max of 36.1 ºC here today, new July record & the 2nd highest temp I have recorded since 1984. And - since getting Davis VP1 in 2004 - also lowest ever relative humidity of 18% and highest ever heat index.

Currently 7/8 cloudy and 28.4 ºC, 39% RH

(my own weather website is down as I write this :) )

Max' of 28.3c today which is 0.2c lower than the July record.

Almost cloudless, just a little cirrus on the south western horizon.

The wind tempered the heat a little, the mean speed was 17-21 mph NE with a max' gust of 35 mph at 1555 b.s.t .

I can barely imagine what 35 or 36 must have felt like.

Currently 22.7c and 63% humidity.

Not sure what the max was at my place today but according to the local BBC news forcast, the hottest place in NI today was Enniskillen at 29c, still short of the all time NI record of 30.8c.

Sky becoming very dark over hastings - expect some storm activity very soon - very little wind / cloud movement - looks like storm is developing overhead and to the south
