Before some wise "bum" gets in 1st - I know they are clouds

They remind me of cirrus due to the long wipsy streaks & looking very high up (possibly being blown by the jetstream?) in the sky.

Was hard to capture a decent image of the clouds due to the sunsetting - but can only describe it as a paintbrush had been streaked through the sky

ps: They looked to be rising almost straight up if that makes a difference

lol hey i was correct on cirrus! woohoo

Cheers Andy.. So that would correctly mean as well the cirrus was high based and being affected (if thats the right word to use) by upper level winds / jet..

High winds in the troposphere I would say. Was there a period of rain close to when you took that? If so it was probably a warm front.
