Sleet being reported in Belmullet so the showers following on, if you get one, will probrably remain of a wintry nature

Hi John, we had snow in Offaly last night - it only stuck on cars and must have been early in the night as it frooze over it. i see Belmullet is now reporting snow rather than sleet.

That is great news but not totally unexpected.

This can only bode well for the rest of the winter if we here in Ireland are getting colder weather than our UK friends.

It was 3C here for most of the morning but my weather station is now showing 7C. Probably a bit of winter sun on my protected sensors.

Lashing with rain this morning and it gradually changed to sleet and then a quite significant snowfall. Nothing landed naturally but a nice suprise al the same.

Showers seem to be tracking eastward now but mixed between snow and rain as the temps would suggest. Could become quite wintery later as temps drop.
