There was a lot of talk during autumn 1974 that the coming could be a hard one

Cold Octobers don't seem to be followed by cold winters it seems.

The winters that follow the top 20 coldest Octobers since 1900:

Only one cold winter and only a few chilly ones. However in recent times the Octobers of 2008 and 2012 had cold winters that followed.
