very strong winds last night kept me awake from 4am onwards ;)

then around 7am (ish) a downpour with winds that suddenly got stronger with small hail bashing my bedroom window, then after the rain had gone the wind dropped very suddenly!! wierd ;)

After the front cleared through around 10am this morning we had a largely sunny day. Watching my daughter play a football match an hour or so later it felt anything but mild despite brilliant sunshine with a strong wind cutting through several layers of clothing. This afternoon there was a slight shower from a largely cloudless sky and I watched some huge cumulonimbus in the distance over South East Sussex following their usual track in these situations along the English Channel towards the Dover Straits.

A southerly gale during the early morning accompanied by a short period of very heavy rain between 0550 and 0600.

The wind decreased after the rain but picked up again later in the morning and during the early and mid-afternoon. The day was one of sunny intervals and a few light showers later a.m and early p.m.

Highest gust today was 73 mph at 0453, there was also a gust of 66 mph at 1438, nothing too unusual here, didn't even make the top 50 highest gusts in the last 12 years.

Max' temp' was 7.4c after an overnight min' of 5.2c.

Rainfall from 1800 yesterday, 6.5mm.

Wind currently is 39 mph SW.
