Pacific El Nino weather warning

The UN weather agency announced on December 1st that a moderate El Nino event has taken hold of the Pacific Ocean's tropical zones and will last until the new year, Reuters reports.

According to the World Meteorological Organisation, sea temperatures are up to 1.5 degrees Celsius warmer than normal and could remain like this for another three months.

This could prove to be good news said one of the organisation's weather experts, Rupa Kumar Kolli: "An El Nino is usually associated with a weaker hurricane season."

However, it could still lead to erratic weather problems around the world.
