Middle Wallop Airfield weather station recorded a -3 last night. I was out and about in the car until around 11pm last night, varying amounts of fog between home and Andover and was still just above freezing at that time. Woke to a very nice frost this morning and suprisingly for us the fog had lifted by 8.30am leaving us with a very nice sunny day.

Drove across to Salisbury for that bit of last minute Christmas shopping, signs of freezing fog on the trees and hedgerows which were still present on the shaded side when I returned about 1 hour ago. Car temp gauge reading between +2 and +3 on the return journey.

Looking forward to another cold, crisp and foggy night tonight - feels so much more like the run up to Christmas.

A very bizarre afternoon here - the sun is out in force, but the fog won't clear. I can barely see the end of my street through the window not 50-70 yards away! With the sun shining forcefully over it too, I should imagine that driving would be pretty difficult!

The strange thing is, there's not a cloud in the sky. To look up, you can see only bright blue!

Yes, I'm somewhat confused! (if anybody would care to PM a rough idea of what's going on or a link to a current discussion, I'd appreciate it)

Sunny all day so far with 1 okta cirrus, unlike yesterday the fog in the local valleys lifted into low cloud by 1100 and this dispersed within half an hour.

Temp' currently 4.8c. Last night it was around 7c warmer here than in the valleys, -4.6c recorded a couple of miles from me and 200m lower and that wasn't at the valley bottom.

11 mph W wind blowing here, completely calm at 140m.
