The squall line visible on the radar over SW Scotland just went through here, ssome incredible windspeeds gusting to 70/80mph plus i would of thought. The windows at my sheltered back garden were blowing inwards all the plants and trees were pushed over to snapping point. Not to mention the torrential rain and hail. Mammatus eveyrwhere now, will try get some pics :)

A Happy New Year thunderstorm shortly after 1am this morning. I could make out the anvil coming because of the almost full moon. Sarted with light rain and distant rumbles then a huge downpour of hail - the most intense hail I've ever seen - even better than the hail on 1st October 2006. Four very bright flashes of lightning (all sheet) and loud thunder. Lasted about 25 minutes all in all and my rain guage collected 12mm from it!

Hoping for more later.

Had a big flash of lightning just NE of me followed by big rumble at 1800....accompanied by hail and heavy rain before (merged showers?)....I almost gave up and then boom! Anyone who was at the Fatboy Slim @ Brighton event would've got a soaking!
