Pressure about 990 here. Gust about an hour ago broke off a large branch, and threw a full big grey wheely-bin about three feet. That was probably 60mph gust recorded at Southend on WeatherOnline.

On a number of occasions in last half hour all the windows in the house shook for about 5 seconds at a time. Back in 1987 that happened for minutes at a time... it's a vicious storm here, I wonder what it's like in East Midlands, where gusts are 18mph stronger?

Gale blowing here. Small branches falling off trees and loose objects flying around.

This storm has been under-rated, gusts up to 80mph even here and we're very far inland! so windy school power has gone nd we've been sent home, almost flooded on the school field too, trees over all round, bins everywhere, the fence is shattered and lorry has been blown over on A10 bridge!!

take care people!!!!! Still the wind gusts but not quite as strong in the past half hour.

Well here its realy windy at the moment. Fences are starting to be blown over our roof tiles are coming off. I heard the roof tiles come and they landed on the garage roof and went with a right bang. some peoples garage roof are coming off as well. I think where one of the worst effected areas at the moment i live in yorkshire.

I read my barometer incorrectly - the needle swung to the black notch inbetween 980 and 990 which must be about 985mb!

It's 990mb now, less windy also. Light rainshower.

skipper - sounds deadly. Stay safe.

Wow what a day!

Severe gales that have only started to ease to a 'normal' strong wind in the last hour or so, squally showers, some sunshine this afternoon and a ridiculous max temperature of 14c!

Starry skies at the moment, windy, 11c.

Well it wasn't quite in the league of the very worst storms I've experienced but it was a hell of a blow.

The worst of it here occurred during the early afternoon. The mean speed between 1435 and 1445 was 70 mph with a gust of 92, the highest of the day.

At 500m the mean speed over 30 MINUTES was 73 mph with a highest 30 second average of 93 and the station at Brierlow Bar just south of Buxton, at the same altitude as me, recorded a gust of 106 mph. I don't know anything about the calibration of their anemometer but normally their gust speeds are very similar to those at my station so I've no reason to dispute the figure.

The temp' is currently 6.3c after a max' since 0900 of 9.4c and an early morning max' of 10.8c.

Rainfall from 0900 to 1800, 6.4mm after 21.9 mm overnight

Sunshine today, 1.57 hrs

Wind speed is currently 29 mph W, gusting to 40, which seems like a gentle breeze after what's just gone.

T.M
