In relation to tomorrows event, I think it's been a while since we've seen a moderate risk as large  Very scary indeed

Large parts of Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Louisiana, Mississipi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina are all under a moderate risk...45% hatched.... I think I'll just put a pin in a map of the eastern half of the states for tomorrow's chase and I'll probably be ok position wise :)

You missed out Arkansas which is where I will be from Sunday. If this pattern continues it could be an interesting week!

I'm in Chicago right now and there's a chance of thunderstorms here. Freezing rain falling around 5pm, turning to rain as temperatures rise with some pretty heavy bursts forecast as the system pushes through. Then, to top it all off, a period of snow following in behind. You've got to love the Midwest in Autumn and Spring (although Spring is yet to spring of course!); it's just so unpredictable...

Arkansas from Sunday 4th until Saturday 10th so may see some interesting sights.

I thought I'd missed something out :)

They've shrunk the area on todays update, but increased to a high risk for much of Alabama and Mississippi. 30% chance of significant tornadoes there and a large swath of 15% chance of significant tornadoes. Since I probably bored myself to death in Tulsa yesterday watching all the Kansas action on my laptop, I hope for a better chase day today :) I'm nto going to position myself to chase the Highest danger area, but will sit in the Missouri bootheel instead. Nice chase country around there with the river being the only hindrance. It gets way to wooded down in alabama and Mississippi for my liking :)

Latest MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0226

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

1212 AM CST THU MAR 01 2007

AREAS AFFECTED...LOWER OH VALLEY INTO MID SOUTH AND LOWER MS VALLEY

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH LIKELY

VALID 010612Z - 010815Z

SEVERE POTENTIAL...INITIALLY IN THE FORM OF SEVERE HAIL FROM

ELEVATED TSTMS...IS EXPECTED TO EVOLVE INTO A THREAT OF MORE

SURFACE-BASED STORMS CAPABLE OF TORNADOES...DAMAGING WINDS AND

SEVERE HAIL THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. CONVECTIVE TRENDS WILL

BE MONITORED FOR POSSIBLE WW/S/.

SCATTERED TSTMS HAVE RECENTLY DEVELOPED AS OF 0530Z FROM PORTIONS OF

NRN AR EWD THROUGH WRN TN AND NRN MS. WATER VAPOR IMAGERY AND SHORT

TERM MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGEST THAT THERE IS A WEAK IMPULSE MOVING

THROUGH THE ARKLATEX WHICH MAY...IN PART...BE CONTRIBUTING TO THIS

DEVELOPMENT. HOWEVER...BROAD LOW-LEVEL WARM/MOIST ADVECTIONS ARE

LIKELY THE PRIMARY FORCING MECHANISMS BASED ON REGIONAL VADS/VWPS.

EXPECT THESE PROCESSES TO CONTINUE...EVEN STRENGTHEN...OVERNIGHT AS

MAIN LLJ AXIS DEVELOPS EWD THROUGH THE LOWER/MID MS VALLEY EWD INTO

THE TN AND OH VALLEYS.

SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THAT ERN EDGE OF PRIMARY SURFACE

MOISTURE AXIS EXTENDS FROM UNO SWD TO BVX TO HEZ WITH DEWPOINTS

COMMONLY IN THE 40S TO LOWER 50S E OF THIS LINE. AS SUCH...RUC

FORECAST SOUNDINGS INDICATE THAT MUCH OF THIS INITIAL CONVECTIVE

ACTIVITY IS ROOTED IN AN ELEVATED MOIST LAYER /800-900 MB/.

MODESTLY STEEP LAPSE RATES OF 7-7.5 C/KM ATOP THIS MOIST LAYER ARE

CONTRIBUTING TO MUCAPES OF 500-1000 J/KG...SUPPORTIVE OF A FEW

ELEVATED SEVERE STORMS CAPABLE OF HAIL.

LATEST RUC/NAM GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THAT RAPID AIR MASS DESTABILIZATION

WILL OCCUR OVERNIGHT THROUGH THE OZARK PLATEAU REGION EWD THROUGH

THE LOWER MS VALLEY INTO MID SOUTH AND LOWER OH VALLEY. AS THIS

OCCURS...A GRADUAL EVOLUTION FROM ELEVATED TO SURFACE-BASED STORMS

WILL OCCUR...NAMELY FROM SW TO NE ACROSS DISCUSSION AREA. THE

INCREASING INSTABILITY COUPLED WITH THE PRESENCE OF RELATIVELY

STRONG LOW AND DEEP-LAYER SHEAR INDICATE THE LIKELIHOOD OF

SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL AND TORNADOES.

THIS IS ESPECIALLY THE CASE FOR ANY STORMS THAT CAN BECOME ROOTED IN

MOISTENING BOUNDARY LAYER.

This is looking very nasty for today and tonight. Could not pick a Target even if I wanted to and certainly would not Chase down there anyway with a massive risk to lives in dreadful Chase Terrain. Just hope one of these does not get to EF4 Or Above as very populated areas.

Getting real nasty out there now. 1 Fatality from earlier and unfortunately was a 7 year old child from Kansas. But in the last few hours parts of Alabama and Georgia and Mississippi getting slammed, no less than 10 Tornado Watches and 5 Severe Thunderstorm Watches on different storms and an amazing sight on 1 Supercell on its own having its own MD Issued, I have NEVER Seen that before, quite a nasty Tornado has also just hit a school and kids are trapped in the Gym. Fox News on Sky following this live BTW

Looks like the town of Enterprise took a direct hit from a Possible 1/2 mile wide Violent Tornado, the pictures are dreadful from this, walking wounded Students from the gym where they were cowering, roof collapsed on top of them, the Hospital has taken a hit as well, one confirmed Fatality from just North of this Storm also, when I get pictures will upload, Cars overturned and Downtown destroyed.

Paul S

Watching Fox News on Sky, pictures are dreadful, they are getting reports of fatalities in a Mobile Home in Alabama, early indications are EF3 Or bigger??

8 Kids still trapped under rubble

:shok::( 8 More confirmed Fatalities from Enterprise, dont know yet if they are students, but suspicious that 8 were trapped from earlier reports, some people over there saying Worst ever South East Alabama Storm. Some Cities reporting 125 Lightning strikes in 15 minutes period, and a very tight couplet heading towards a very built up area north west of Birmingham Alabama.

Paul S

EDIT: Tooloscooma, South West of Birmingham has a Monster Supercell bearing down on it, this Storm is following an earlier Supercell and the area is flooded. What a Day out there is almost unchaseable country.
