March 1957 is the warmest March on record with a CET of 9.2

The warmest spell came just before mid-month in a southerly flow and maxima into the low 20s

Record maxima for these dates

12th: 23.3C

13th: 21.1C

Despite the warmth, it was not an especially dry March for England and Wales.

For Scotland, March 1938 was warmer than March 1957; 7.1 compared to 6.5

and also for Northern Ireland, March 1938 was warmer than March 1957; 8.5 compared to 8.2
