    In a region where 100+ inches of snow is the average for the season, the winter of 1976-7 was even more than Buffalo could handle. An early start to the freeze led to Lake Erie freezing by the middle of December. On top of this ice, snow accumulated as temperatures failed to reach freezing for the whole of January.

    The winter was impressive throughout the Eastern US, with snow being reported in Miami and also snow mixed in with rain in Bermuda!
