I went for a walk at the weekend on Asby Scar near the village, and it gives you great views over the Eden Valley towards the Pennines. This time, however, I noticed a strange mist hanging over the hills. I've adjusted the photos to bring this out better, but does anyone have any explanation for this as I've not seen it before.

Not sure if it is anything to do with dew points and air temp being close to equal at that particular elevation as the cool air settles in the valley?

I find that this happens in our valley fairly frequently at dusk and again at dawn

Some sort of inversion with mist/smoke trapped in a layer?

Possibly, but it covered such a length of the hills...about 10 miles I'd guess, that it just seemed very strange.
