May 2nd saw the Netweather Teams 2nd Supercell in 2 days. But chase conditions were dreadful at times with dewpoints almost matching temperatures. We chose a Target of Junction (Tx) based on Models we looked at in the morning, at about 315pm we found a great position looking west and a Supercell initiated about 60 miles to our South West. We did manage some shots but structure was very poor. We followed the storms back to Fredericksburg for the 2nd night in a row.

As Paul was driving and we would have been rather silly to get out in the sort of rain we had, pictures are a bit sparse. However don't say we didn't try our hardest to get you some shots :)

Here, we have dropped south of the Junction cell to see whether we could get any clear air to shoot from. It was however very drizzly. So... what else to do than drive right into the back end to see what we could find :)

Here we approach the storm very cautiously encountering heavy rain

Hmmm.. still no luck... Let's go in deeper!

Suddenly we enter some clear air. Despite being under the high echo returns on Barons, precipitation is low and we can make out the first features of the day.

Here we see a nice beaver tail being pulled into the remnants of the original cell which is now being crowded out by new development to it's south east AND South West.

Now we are in a predicament... With the Cells to the South West and South East merging on top of us, we have no real chocie but to plow on. Never mind.. there has been no sign of rotation on Barons in this part of the storm to date. We proceed in blinding rain, then the next Barons update greets us with the following image (EEEP!)

In zero visibility we were a little concerned with a shear marker not 1 mile NE of us, but being behind the rotation, we plowed on very slowly until it dispersed. We never really emerged from under the core of the storm until Fredericksburg, 60 miles East. Lots of CG lightning to be watched when we could see more than 15 metres from the car :)

Overall, not a bad day. Considering the terrible chase terrain and crappy drizzly environment, we had fun and got to see some interesting things. Still I'll take a panhandle chase anyday!

The photographs you did manage to capture are still very good considering the difficult conditions that you encountered on the chase.

Hope you have some better luck as you move into the texas panhandle, hopefully you'll be encountering LP supercells this time that are not rain wrapped and very photogenic :)

Looking forward too and waiting in anticipation to see pauls video of the anvil crawling lightning from chaseday 1 :)

Keep safe though guys. :)

You still managed to get some good shots though guys. The mammatus one is my favourite.

Well done on getting some cracking photos, despite the visibility difficulties you described.
