Hi Guys,

We always knew Friday 4th May was going to be the "Day before the Day" event and that Supercell would be scattered but to get pictures of 3 LP Supercells lined up was great. We also have video footage of the developing Supercell that became the 1 and a half mile wide wedge that has destroyed Greensburg (Ks), at one point we were 15 miles east of the Supercell but followed the rule back to get the southern storm.

Started out in Amarillo and headed North to Dodge City, it became apparant that we were well behind the dryline and blasted east to St John where we met up with Darin Brunin from Stormtrack, we all watched the developing Supercells in Oklahoma that were tracking towards Kansas and all took off, we were 250 miles away but that soon became 85 after about 45 minutes, we were 90mph south and the storm was 35mph North. After briefly gassing up in Pratt we got just east of the 3 storms that were lined up, the Northern most went onto destroy Greensburg and Macksville (Ks) we were well within reach of these but decided that chasing a Mile and a half wedge at night is not fun so grabbed Pizza and stayed in Alva (Ok) just on the Kansas border.

Some fantastic photo opportunities. It was fascinating to watch the 3 storms develop and see the different stages each went through.

Amazing photos, guys, and I echo that sentiment. It's hard to imagine the death and destruction that can be wrought by such beautiful creations of Mother Nature. To see the supercells even without seeing the twisters must be truly awe-inspiring.

According to the BBC report the Greensburg tornado yesterday was "at least a mile wide"! Hope you manage to capture a tornado or two on camera, but do take care. Those are monsters out there. Awesome indeed.

Many Teams responded straight away to the Greensburg EF5 Tornado, one of them was the MESO Team, who we saw quite a few times on 4th May, another was Darin Brunin & Dick Mcgowan from Stormtrack, have been in Pm Contact with Darin & since learnt that when Darin left us at 620pm when we were parked in St John, he chased the Greensburg Tornado until he entered Greensburg himself where they broke off the Chase to help pull people from the rubble, the account below is pretty harrowing reading from the part that is called "The Aftermath" but it shows you what the MESO Team went through on that night.

Incredibly harrowing account, a nightmare that will stay with them for years, luckly they learnt from their mistake never chase at night especially if its a 1-2 mile wedge!! ..

Dick Mcgowans account can be viewed here http://www.nowpublic.com/storm_chasers_fir...heir_full_story and they are in the process of making a video of that tragic night where 100% of the profits will go to the red cross.

Those are some of the nicest guys I have ever met NL!! Darin has even invited me out to chase with them whenever I am over there again, should of taken them up on the offer of a Tag along with them, although with people that have never seen that sort of carnage before maybe it was for the best that we took the easy option.

All praise to these guys. A very well written account that gives you a miniscule taste of what it must have been like. I can only hope that the towns people, and those that responded, are able to rebuild their lives as well as their homes.
