Having discussed it within the team and taken into account all your views, it's been agreed that any subject matter will be eligible for the photo competition. However, each month, there will be two contests running side by side. One for weather-related photos, and one for non weather-related photos. The winning weather-related photos will go forward to the anticipated calender at the end of the year, but the photographers of the winning non weather-related photos will just have to make do with knowing that their being nice to people for a few days and bribery all paid off.

Please also note that the anticipated calender will include the winning shots from each month up to September to allow us time to print the calenders. Subsequent months will roll over to the next year. It's also hoped that the winning photos from last year will be included in some way.

Yeah.

Enter all your photos in the normal way. When it comes to voting, the team (or Shuggee really, but I need to break it to him gently) will have sorted the photos into weather-related and non weather-related.

Perhaps those of us who enter can be encouraged to say whether or not we are claiming 'weather-relatedness' for our own pictures; might save Shuggee some time?

Honestly, I only go away for a few days and come back needing breaking in. Again.

This is not a complaint or anything, but to my eye, some of the entries in the Weather comp seem to be just normal landscapes etc.

I personally think that the weather, or the effects of the weather, should be the focal point, with more general landscapes (just because there's some sky visible with a couple of Cu in it doesn't make it weather related, IMHO) going into the Non-weather category.

Any thoughts?

I'd like to enter some of my Langdale pictures but frankly don't consider any of them to be weather related so IMO they should all go into the Non-weather category. But looking at the Aug entries, it would appear I could put them in the Weather cat as well? I haven't actually taken any weather related pics this month :o

Yes - it is an interesting one this Essan.

If you think back to what the competition has always been about - it is for shots of the weather of a particular month to represent that month. If this means a landscape shot on a sunny or a misty day - then that fits in nicely with this criteria.

However, a shot of say a train which takes up 2/3rds of the frame, that happens to be in a landscape on a sunny day would definitely be non-weather.

It's a judgement call by entrants and by the Team. Indeed this month a couple of members' entries have had to be withdrawn or re-categorised and it's something we're very much aware of :o

Thks Shuggee :o

Hopefully I'll get what I consider more weather orientated pictures to enter before month end anyway, if not, I guess a few of my pictures from the Lake District are indeed representative of the sort of weather we had during the first part of the month (ie the long awaited summer!)
