Unfortunatley across the plains it has been fairly quiet with only the odd 'severe' thunderstorm and with storms so far and in-between it has been a bit of a chasers nightmare 'hats -off to the teams catching some of these but into next week hopes are high that deep troughs will again plough through with severe outbreaks re-appearing, the ECMWF picks this out and with this model being the most accurate its looking very promising indeed ....Ed Berry's thoughts.......

During the next few weeks I think the tropical convection will increase in coverage across the Eastern Hemisphere including the Indian Ocean from ~40-120E (with a contribution from the currently very active convection across Africa). An early onset to the Indian monsoon is probable. Flare-ups will continue across the west Pacific. I remain firm on my predictions of more strong troughs to impact the western USA starting next week. The models are “all over the place” on catching up to the atmosphere and synoptic details are unclear. I think this situation may persist into June shifting northwest with the seasonal cycle. Probable weather ramifications include exceptional outbreaks of severe storms again across the Plains and early summertime heat across the Deep South and portions of the East.

Ed Berry's full analysis can be found here. http://weatherclimatelink.blogspot.com/

With the dirth of severe storms in the last few days the guys must have been grateful for some very well deserved R&R, after the somewhat manic time of late.

I can only hope that this forecast is right and Paul, Ian and the rest of the guys have the opportunity to see what are the most amazing scenes and bring back some cracking photos and video (hopefully they will share some with us at home).

Good luck to you

Paul and Ian are in convoy with Steve, they're gonna sit with these storms to catch some night-time lightning shots, getting a tad worried that they're dying off...

Ended up in Las Vegas (No not that one) the one in New Mexico (7 hours behind you guys now) we got some great Lightning footage, with Plasma bolts hitting the highway in front of us, current temp about 8c, so heating cranked up at the Super 8, just had a Burger King, no steaks today!! Tomorrow looks like Southern New Mexico and West Texas possibly around the El Paso area, or a bit further North near a Dryline in Colorado again.

It all sounds like the names on a cowboy film, make sure you all carry your six shooters in El Paso

Look forward to seeing the lightning pictures.

Enjoy the steak and beer in El Paso and good luck.
