Hi,

The Time Team are coming to Barra and i thought it would be interesting to see what they find i will post photos here through out next week and try to get any news if they find any thing.

To give you a idea where there going to dig here are some pics below,

And why are they digging? Because bones have been found around that area and they think there is a Viking Boat in that Mound.

Cool!

Completely irrelevant but I watched a documentary last night about a little boy who claimed to be reincarnated. He said in a previous life he lived on Barra and described it in some detail despite the fact he lived his whole life in Glasgow. It showed quite a bit of the island which looks very pretty. Shame about the weather while they were filming though :)

Well that was in the middle of the winter they should have filmed it in the summer.

I'm guessing Jacqui Mulville, Mike Parker Pearson, Keith Branigan and possibly Niall Sharples will be the experts, as all four have long term research projects up there.

Looks like an interesting mound: might also be neolithic, although viking does seem likely as there are known examples from Barra.

Great as it happens pictures WM, I am glad they showed respect and hid the remains behind the table, a nice touch that.

If it were me they were digging up, I wouldn't haunt them that bad because they had been a bit respectful :):)

Russ

Well they told me the houses where that age not the bones :)

I suspect the bones are the same age as the houses WM, unless someone has been doing some archaeological "tampering".

There are strict ethical guidelines with bones, a specific way they have to be handled etc etc. And if the bones are fairly recent (by recent I mean up to a couple hundred years) then the issue of living relatives has to be considered or even possible unsolved murder cases (not very usual though), but these bones probably wouldn't qualify for this. Still, strict ethical guidelines have to be followed and the highest respect for the human remains as you mentioned.
