Hi all!

Not sure if this is in the right place but here's a couple of pics of a funnel cloud/tornado that formed over peterborough at about 1630 today. I think it very briefly touched the ground but I didn't get a picture of as I was driving at the time - still kicking myself that I didnt think to pick up my camera when I went barreling out of work as I saw it forming! anyway:

Fantastic captures there Iain, not bad for a day with a weakly sheared atmosphere, must have been some strong updrafts and low-level vorticity from wind convergence to create that in the area.

Brilliant.

Hope you don't mind me linking the pictures to UKww, as they have a RFMI on the Peterborough area 'Tornado'.

The glorious flatlands of Lincolnshire. Seems to be doing well at the moment with the old downward flirt of a cloud.

There was a bit of one towards the hills on the other side of Chesterfield yesterday afternoon. Though not a smooth edged funnel type formation (no camera available)

However. It did look a bit like the ones that decend from the cloud base but are rough on the edges?

Anyway Iain. Fantastic pictures though.

Welcome

Yes Peterborough is in Cambridgeshire but the Lincs Border is only 3miles away!. I can't believe I missed this tornado today and im gutted to say the least.

I must say that the Peterborough region is doing rather well for Tornados. I make that now 5 sightings of tornados in the past 2 yrs which is pretty good going IMO.
