As we have had threads about when will we reach 25C or 30C, i thought that it would be good to create a thread conserinng the first snowfall, obviously we have had recent snow in the Caringorms, so i am thinking more along the lines of Inverness or Abberdeen.

When are the first snowfalls usually in these cities??

    .....errrr.....

Do you mean the 'first snowfall' this Summer, Autumn, Winter or, even perhaps, next Spring?

Surely this is not a discussion suitable for late June! This is summer discussion, not winter discussion.

Met Office give huge warnings across the uK.

However the only snow that falls on hami the hamster in Norfolk. A total of 2mm.

After that the winter goes back to mild rubbish.

Sometime during the autumn in the Scottish Highlands.

In Aberdeen, until recently, it was normal for the first snow of the season to hit in November, but recent mild Novembers mean that December is probably a safer bet these days.

If you're serious then that would be quite something in relation to recent years, particularly that Manchester one.

That all depends upon where you are ..... we had a little sleet today in Christchurch with snow on both the north and south islands.

When I saw sleet, and before I read any further, I really did think you were going to be a resident of Telford.

By the look of the weather outside my window I would say it's autumn. Therefore I can expect snow within 3 months. I will therefore go for August 31st for the first snowfall in the southeast. :)

Global warming? I spit on you. Pah!

While i did intend to lighten the mood, lets not get totally stupid, we will stick with Aberdeen and Inverness to give you all a better chance.

I am actually suprised that Aberdeen usually does not see snow until November, i thought late Septemeber would of been the normal timeframe, though sea temperatures are at there highest around that time which probably explains the lateness.

The northerly this week will produce upper air temperatures of -3C in Aberdeen, the thermal maxima in just over a months time is around 3C higher on average, therefore i would rule out any chance of snow until late September, nevertheless, i am expecting a cool September so i would give the last week of September as my prediction.

A bit far off for a LR forecast but here goes.

Aberdeen: Last week of November from a Northerly.

Inverness: Very sheltered here so lthird week in December.

Hopefully not until next February. I'm hoping for a dry and warm winter to make up for June.
