The other 16 in that list were followed by wetter than average Augusts.

Oh dear, i regret asking now. So historically we are looking at 4-1 in favour of more of the same?

Thanks Mr Data.

My network is reporting that the Glade Festival (a 3 day dance/electro-music event, starting today) near Thatcham, Berkshire, near Newbury, was within a very short straw of being called off this morning. The gates were closed and arriving ticketholders turned away for a while. One stage closed, other event tents very very soggy by all accounts. Thatcham station was closed, part of the M4 near that area closed. Talk of 45 mm of rain in a morning down there, which might not be a total exaggeration!

But they held off on a major decision, and things are drying out down there slightly, now, with the sun out. Looks like it won't be cancelled altogether now, but Newbury Races were, and I bet other outdoor events in Central Southern England must have been too.

The other 16 in that list were followed by wetter than average Augusts.

How many of those wet July/wet August combos were preceded by a wetter than average June though?

It is a real worry actually the next 48hrs are a major worry as this rain is not forecast to stop all night and tomorrow for Wales and other parts this is serious. :( there`s small pools in the fields now, seen water I`ve never seen in summer before. :(

Midlands Weather has just been on forecasting ANOTHER "2 inches or so" of rain for this area by tomorrow morning- come on this is supposed to be July!

Bet we have a scorching bone dry August ... it would be classic for this country (see my August CET comment for reasons why).

The one thing you can be certain of is that when the tabloids go definitively one way, the weather will then do the opposite!

yep, judging by the radar and athe quantity of rain falling from the sky here all morning the May, June, July record will be broken today, and probably by some margin, especially with nearly 2 weeks of this wather to come! Think we will be in top 10 June - July too, maybe top five. The last 3 months have really been remarkable in this part of the world for rainfall!

April was bone dry though ... just goes to show how unpredictable our climate is here.

Well to be fair this is now really a quite exceptional few months for rainfall and I don't use that word lightly but its fully justified in this case, where about are we currently ranking in terms of the July rainfall, must be in the top 20 thanks to yesterdays rainfall at least?

A surprisingly long way down the list. July 1828 must have been a month worth witnessing.

Locally, despite the fact we've missed all the torrential showers and also the worst of events such as yesterday, we could still exceed the July record of 140.6mm in 2003.

If The Sun said said the sky was blue I'd have to check myself.

Though the outlook certainly isn't good, emember we just don't know what will happen beyond say 10 days. It's all guesswork after that. August and September could be scorching.

Well it`s stopped raining this morning and I have to say it`s the 2nd wettest spell I`ve ever seen with one autumn a few years back it was wetter but the ground was hard then,2.6inches altogether and the valleys are flooded especially the river severn, and there`s underground streams even in the fields and water everywhere as it`s soaking off big time.

It will be a disaster for crops, even our damson`s are dropping off and going red.

Tell me I`m dreaming!!!!

A surprisingly long way down the list.

Really wet Julys have been pretty scarce since 1961, this is the 5th one to break the 90mm barrier since then. Its definitely going to be the wettest July since 1988 now.

The period August 2006-July 2007 has been pretty wet, up to 1158.4mm so far. The 12 month rainfall average is 919.7mm

Well plenty of time for it to be bumped a long way up the list. Ten days to go and more rain to come. Wouldn't be surprised if we ended half way up the list.

Anyway it's going to hit peoples pockets hard this cleanup.

Someones spelling worse than mine.

Theres a lot of info at the Met office and I think Mr Data has created his own database as well. For me in Sheffield it's the sixth wetness July on record since 1955. This following on June which was the wettest on record and an amazing 389.3% above average. With no sign of anything settled on the way August may go the same way.
