A "month of two halves" here with a fine and warm start up to the 19th, albeit lacking notable hot days and prolonged sunny periods. The monthly temperatures were slightly above average despite an unsettled, cool and wet last third to June, dominated - as we are all too well aware - by slow moving low pressure systems with a more southerly track than usual. Rainfall ended as 171% of average and the sunshine total was roughly 70% of normal.

A rather bland month of weather and the worst since 1997 and 1998 for enthusiasts of warm, dry sunny weather - although not as bad as the worst June in my records (1991). Monthly Mean: 16.0 ºC

    Average max: 21.0 ºC ( 0.6C ABOVE average* )

    Mean temp= 16.0(14.4)

    Mean max=20.8(19.2) warmest day=26.5 on 9th; coldest day=12.4 on 14th

    mean min=11.1(9.5) coldest night=7.1 on 28th and warmest night= 16.6 on 3rd

Rainfall=136.4mm(add about 20% to this as the Davis under reads by that amount); wettest day 25th=58.0mm, again add 20%.

    Long term average(1943-1995)=50.9mm

Certainly the wettest ever June in this area and one of the wettest ever months.

    Days with 02.mm or more=19(13); 1mm or more=11

No snow, air or ground frost.

3 days with fog(0+) and 3(2) with thunder.

As others have said a month of two halves, rather warm throughout, dry at first then exceedingly wet in the second half.

    Data for Cleadon:

    Mean max 16.6 (+0.0)

    Mean min 11.0 (+1.6)

    Mean temp 13.8 (+0.8}

    Precip: 98mm (181%)

Thunder: 4 days (highest since I began recording)

    Hail/sleet/snow/gales: 0 days

    Highest max: 22.4 (20th)

    Lowest min: 7.3 (28th)

This was an extremely cloudy month, especially the first two-thirds. The first third was dry and cloudy for much of the time, with North Sea cloud, low maxima and high minima. The middle sector was very wet, with many frontal 'stallers' over the area, and a continuation of the very cloudy weather.

It became brighter and warmer from the 20th-22nd with maxima above 20C on three successive days. There was thunder on the 20th, 21st and 23rd, but the 22nd saw a narrow strip of the north-east coast miss the storms. The last week was cold, with a continued shortage of sunshine, though it was reasonably sunny on the 29th. We missed the slow-moving frontal staller that brought catastrophic flooding to most of the Midlands and Yorkshire- a rare occasion where I was pleased to miss out on a significant weather event (not that I ever liked persistent frontal rain anyway!)

Overall it was the wettest June only since 1997 (which had 132mm), but it was probably the dullest since 1987. The mean maximum was the lowest since 2001, but the mean minimum was similar to the last three Junes, so overall the mean temperature was the coolest (along with 2002) since 2001.

The wettest June ever recorded in this location. More than 4 months rain fell in just under 3 weeks. The 15th and 25th were very wet days, with 41mm and 97.8mm respectably. The latter of the two days is the wettest day ever.

The month was generally one of two halves. The first 11 days were easterly dominated and therefore very dull and cool. Sunshine was at a premium and it was totally dry with no precipitation until the 12th. The pattern then became more Atlantic dominated, with slow moving fronts stagnanting overhead due to an unusually southward-displaced jetstream for the time of year.

Despite this, only the last week saw any real below average synoptics and as a result the month was comfortably warmer than normal, though mainly due to a high average minima. The month also saw an exceptional switcharound, with both the warmest and coolest maxima recorded within two days of each other. The maxima of 11.8°C on the 14th was the lowest Ive ever recorded in June. The high maxima of the month was also rather low at 23.5°C (12th), the first time June has failed to record 25°C since at least 2001.

    June 2007 Report.

    By Paul Carfoot.

All began well for the first week and a half in to June. The very unsettled weather of May quickly gave way to warm dry and settled conditions as high pressure to the south of the UK amalgamated with a high pressure block to the north of the country.

From the 1st to the 11th the weather was completely dry, very sunny, warm and even hot at times with temperature reaching or exceeding 21c / 70f. The high for the period was 25.3c on the 9th.

Only 1 day was overcast during the period when cumulostratus cloud refused to clear on the 7th, which also suppressed the temperature to 15.6c.

Another major change took place on the 13th, as low pressure once again took a firm grip. The day started warm, dry and humid with good sunny periods and an early afternoon temperature of 22.2c, heavy clouds built during the mid afternoon and heavy rain broke out accompanied by thunder, depositing a total of 15mm of rain in just over 2 hours, this was to be the start of a very wet and unsettled period of weather.

The following few days were very wet indeed, with 33mm being recorded on the 15th. The very unsettled but rather warm conditions continued until the 23rd.

The period from the 23rd to the end of the month continued very wet and unsettled indeed, but notably cooler with a northerly airflow at times, and with clear skies on the night of the 28th a ground frost was recorded here, with the minimum grass temperature of –0.5c.

    Summary.

Except for the first week and a half, low pressure was the dominant feature; the month became very unsettled and extremely wet.

    Stats for June 2007

    Average maximum temperature = 20.1c

    Average minimum temperature = 11.1c

Mean temperature = 15.6 + 1.5c above the CET average.

    Coldest day on the 26th = 15.4c

    Warmest night on the 12th = 16.2c

    Coldest night on the 28th = 4.3c

    Ground Frosts = 1

    Air frost = 0

    Days of snow = 0
