i did not see a thing my girlfriend ses she saw one but how come i didnt omg thats unfair

saint :)

Perhaps you were looking in the wrong direction? Is there light pollution in your area? That would have decreased your chances of seeing one. They weren't all that frequent either so if you didn't keep your eyes peeled you may of missed most of them.

Thanks for the link Nigel, hope it's clear on those nights.

been poppin in and out since it went dark, only upto a count of 4 at the mo, peak viewing around 3am will see me knockin the zeds out im afraid,

is it true you can see the space station and shuttle in orbit going round whilst we are on the subj?

Yes. It looks like a large aircraft coming in to land with runway lights blazing but no flashing lights. It's quite awesome and looks very large - I suppose being the largest man-made object up there it would. Shuttle is still attached to it. Anyway, it passed over West to East on both Saturday and Sunday evening. You can find the times for Leeds here. Great site to bookmark if you're interested in space flight.

Only saw two Perseids.

Good Luck

The ISS looks like this (taken on a fairly long exposure of course!) I took this on Sunday night whilst looking for the Perseids.

post-1394-1187124814_thumb.jpg

I only saw it for the first time (with the shuttle chasing it) last week and was amazed at how bright and easy to spot it was (if you know where to look!)

As well as the link to the NASA site Andy posted, try http://www.heavens-above.com/selecttown.asp?CountryID=UK. Just type in your town name and click on ISS or shuttle. The two will be undocking next Monday so the chance will return of seeing them seperately again :shok:

Thanks MCT but it was quite easy really!

Not sure about the shooting star though. Can't see it myself, but the rotation of the earth in relation to the stars can be seen, even in the space of around 3 minutes :)

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
