There is a tropical cyclone in the southern Indian ocean! It developed last night- but isn't this extremley rare? It has formed just about in the perth area of responsibilty, but looks like dissapating in the next 24 hours. What is puzzling me though, is I thought waters are far too cool at this time of year for development in the south indian ocean? The cyclone season for this area in November-April. How did this system form?

cant help you mate, checked the Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) site cant find anything bout it on thier.

    Did find another one though

Tropical Depression 06W is forecast to strike land to the following likelihood(s) at the given lead time(s):

    Yellow Alert Country(s) or Province(s)

    Vietnam

probability for TS is 60% currently

    Note that

Yellow Alert (Elevated) is CAT 1 or above to between 10% and 30% probability, or TS to above 50% probability.

CAT 1 means Typhoon strength winds of at least 74 mph, 119 km/h or 64 knots 1-min sustained.

TS means Tropical Storm strength winds of at least 39 mph, 63 km/h or 34 knots 1-min sustained.
