There were two notable heatwaves during August 1932. The first was centred around the 11th of August when maxima got into the low 30s. The second heatwave came just after mid month and was the more extreme of the two where maxima got into the mid 30s with 35.0C at Jersey on the 18th, 36.1C for parts of London on the 19th and 32.2C on the 20th at Tottenham. It became cooler during the latter stages of the month.

That synoptic map is quite something. Belt of high pressure at mid lattitude right across our half of the northern hemisphere. The 'Azores' High is absolutely massive!

Yeah certainly is a chunky high and probably it was stronger then that as well given its size, probably as high as 1030mbs. It should be noted that these synoptic maps are good for a rough idea of the set-up but once you go this far back they may not be completely accurate.

Still its east to see why it was so hot, classic chart there with feed coming from N.Africa with pressure close to 1015mbs. you can also see why it brokedown as well wit hthe low probably coming up from the south and low near Iceland heading NE allowing winds to be drawn down the eastern flank of the Azores high.
