Alot of heavier showers here yesterday arvo, scoring over 24mm here at Modanville, Nth Lismore. Went thru that heavier shower in car and friggin so heavy especially you see those in tropics monsoon! Absolutely belting down extremely hard and has to stop on road when it eases.

Today have a little instability, rain areas across NE NSW to put in very pleasant conditions and this helps the conditions to reach favourable to sleep well at night! Scored 1.1mm since 3am this morning.

Continuing extreme tropical conditions here in subtropical climate! Today was the insane weather ever experienced, but it tend to get more onwards. Nice showers today increasing to widespread showers to be heavy with local thunder, max temp was 30 with heat index of 32 degrees of 79% humidity! Very hot and sticky cloudy day with good heavy wise showers. Likely to see heavier and more widespread overnight into rest of the week and next week aswell compared to the forecasting models. This is due to convergence between the monsoonal trough and southeast trade winds. Going for 55m tomorrow and 20mm onwards. Gonna be wet and very hot cloudy days.

Had a bit of extreme rainfalls past 62hours, had over 77mm since the 62hours. One night we had 68mm from extreme monsoonal downpour. Convective outlook going for showers and storms today with very heavy rainfalls due to slow nature of windshear. Rainfall for January/2008 is over 480mm!

Top Priority for Immediate Broadcast

NSW SEVERE WEATHER WARNING

Flash Flooding,

For people in

Northern Rivers and Midnorth Coast, especially around the Wooli to Coffs Harbour region.

Issued at 11:50 pm on Saturday 2 February 2008

Synoptic Situation: 9:00 pm EDT Saturday

This is an update of the warning issued at 8:50 pm Saturday.

An automatic rain gauge at Wooli has recorded nearly 200 mm of rainfall since 5PM, with 105 mm in the hour to 9PM. Radar returns show that the rainfall has generally eased in the area over the past hour. However further rain is moving down from the northeast and indications favour the potential for further heavy rainfall in these two districts over the next 12 to 24 hours, sufficient to cause local flash flooding, especially in the area between Wooli and Coffs Harbour and the adjacent ranges.

Emergency services advise do not enter flood water. Stay well clear of creeks, storm drains and causeways.

For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES [NSW and ACT] on telephone number 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:45 am Sunday

Ballina (here) scored over 160mm past 24hours from this heavy (monsoonal) rain that has started around 11pm last night. Wooli and Empire Vale (sth Ballina) both recorded over 200mm!!!! *Crikey*! Looks like storms may fire up sometime this afternoon and yea rain continues all week with constantly weather approach like we had constant showery/heat/high humidity days in past few weeks.

Continuing showery continues here last few days and temperatures finally getting warmer, expecting to reach into 30's during this week plus a possible another severe weather event! Showing a deep low pressure coming towards the coast on this week!

Forecast for Tuesday

Scattered showers. Southeast wind gradually strengthening in the north.

Lismore: A few showers. Min: 19 Max: 27

Forecast for Wednesday

Scattered showers. Southeast wind, fresh to strong near the coast.

Lismore: Few showers. Min: 20 Max: 28

Synoptic Situation

A high, presently located near Tasmania, is moving slowly east and is expected to move into the southern Tasman Sea during the day. The high is directing a south to southeast airstream along New South Wales coast which will turn more northeasterly in the south. There is an increasing likelihood of the development of a deep low in northern Tasman Sea/Coral Sea during next week, with a hint that the low might track towards the Queensland/NSW border towards the latter part of the week.

Its very hot this morning....temperatures hit low 30's just after 9am and now (10am) reaching 33-35 degrees! The humidity is also high aswell due to 20 degrees plus dewpoints which might be a good sign for a storm this afternoon.

Good old wintry type days here today, refreshingly cool day with gusty southeast winds but easing though with isolated showers.......'isolated' means for here is nothing to get otherwise you might ended up getting a freak monsoonal like shower especially we had 25mm from that last night!

Well it seems something for sure of rainfall total.....961.3mm of rain so far for 2008!!

Very strange in last 10 days, heatwaves now added for central southern country now since the western had, so likely to move onto the eastern including here sometime this easter with severe storms redeveloping. Few severe cells near Canberra the capital now......blazing heat with many days over 35 degrees at Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, much alot hotter inland including Broken Hill, Mildura, Marble Bar, Woomera, Port Augusta and so on. Here is just like spring like conditions with odd showers with Se breezes. Days r over 25 and nights sitting ducks around 20. Just pleasant in nights and very humid days.

Do you really get "Monsoonal Showers" in Ballina? AFAIK, the Monsoon trough sits firmly around the Australian tropics north of 20S, occassionally delving down to north of Brisbane in exceptional circumstances. Coastal NSW/temperate coastal QLD is more affected by SE trades than by monsoon troughs.

Finally might see some lightning back today, nice cells firing up on radar moving northwards along the weak souther'ly change with high humidity and dewpoints. Very nice updrafts and instability outside with some heating. Some towers out west has some features that having an anvil. Hopefully get something!
