The summer of 1933 was a hot and fairly dry summer with a CET of 17.0 and a rainfall of 153.6mm. August was a particularly dry month and this created problems as fires broke out in parts of southern England and Wales especially in the New and Epping Forests.

    23rd August-11th September: 6.4mm

    25th August-5th September: 18.1

From the 29th August 1933 edition of the Times
