Gross Glockner

Hi,

When conditions prevail, I am going to post web-cam images of the highest mountain in Austria at 12.457 feet asl. We can then monitor the glacier and snow conditions over the coming months. Glockner can be easily seen from Katschberg Mountain during the clear winter skies and is in the same Hohe Tauern National Park .

Yes, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is one of the loveliest panorama roads in the Alps. 36 bends,not for the faint hearted. This magnificent drive ends high above the Pasterze before Austria's highest mountain. When you get to the top, great views of the glaciers and there is even a pub up there. If you are ever in the region, a journey and view not to be missed. There is also a good ski-resort called Heiligenblut at the exit of the pass.

Lovely sunny day today in the Austrian Alps. Good views of Glockner and the glacier. Showers from last week have deposited a fine covering of snow on the peak.

Spot on JH. Snow arrived late this afternoon. Temperature 0C in village and -3C 2200m & -8C at 3000m. Heavy falls being reported in the Voralburg Region on the Swiss border.

Clouds clearing from the summit. Fresh snowfall over the past few days. Snow level 2000M ASL.

Nice wave clouds forming over the Hohe Tauern this afternoon. North Foehn wind lifting the temperature nicely with a rapid retreat of the snowline to around 2000m.

Nice sunny morning in the Hohe Tauren. Good shot of the Glockner Massive in the background. Last week the chapel was covered in snow. Snow line now receded above 2000m

Just got this shot of the Sonnblick Observatory looking west to the Gross Glockner Massive. Nice place for a Sunday afternoon pic-nic. Reminds me of Great Driffield on a snowy day !

Can see that view from the top of Katschberg Mountain at 2200m today. Looks like its going to turn a lot colder up there this week.
