Here's from the 20th September 1926 edition of the Times of the heatwave of mid September 1926, where maxima breeched the 30C mark.

Highest maxima recorded that day

18th September: 29.4C

19th September: 32.2C

20th September: 29.4C

However on the otherside of the Atlantic, the Caribbean and Florida were badly hit by a hurricane that has since been nicknamed the Great Miami Hurricane

A letter by a reader to the Times who witnessed the aurora on the 15th of September 1926. I'm not sure its the same Leonard Huxley, the writer and a member of the famous Huxley family.

September 1926 had a CET of 14.4 but was the warmest September since 1898. There was a distinct lack of really warm Septembers during the first quarter of the 20th century, something you can't say about recent years.
