I've just had a thought and wondered if anyone had an answer.

The eye of a hurricane is an area of low pressure. This sucks up water from the surface of the oceans and creates the storm surge - a bit of a simplification but paints the picture.

In a period of La Nina, would this effect intensify the La nina event, due to upwelling more cold water than expected?
