UK Outlook for Friday 4 Jan 2008 to Sunday 13 Jan 2008:

It will be cold in many places next Friday with some showers of sleet and snow, especially in eastern and central parts. A band of rain should push in from the west next weekend, this perhaps also giving some snow in places for a time. However, by the beginning of the following week (7th January) the snow should have moved away, allowing a somewhat milder west or southwesterly airstream to cover the country. It is likely to be unsettled, however, with showers or longer spells of rain, as well as some strong winds. Northwestern parts of the UK will see the most unsettled and windiest weather with the best of the drier, brighter interludes occurring across southeastern parts. These conditions are likely to continue throughout the week.

More showery conditions will follow later in the day or on Sunday. Afternoon all..happy new year !

The wintery stuff moving away seems later on this forecast today than yesterday !

UK Outlook for Sunday 6 Jan 2008 to Tuesday 15 Jan 2008:

The period will start with generally unsettled conditions with rain or showers at times, possibly heavy in the north and west, although the south and east may see some clearer spells. Occasional snowfalls may occur in the north and over hills. However, by later in the week (11th January) any snow should have moved away, allowing a somewhat milder west or southwesterly airstream to cover the country. It is likely to be unsettled at times, however, with showers or longer spells of rain, as well as some strong winds. Northwestern parts of the UK will see the most unsettled and windiest weather with the best of the drier, brighter interludes occurring across southeastern parts. UK Outlook for Monday 7 Jan 2008 to Wednesday 16 Jan 2008:

Some very wet and windy weather is expected to spread across the UK on Monday, perhaps preceded by sleet and snow over the hills of the north especially. This sets the scene for the rest of the period with a rather unsettled spell of weather in store. All parts will see further spells of rain, interspersed with brighter periods and some showers. Strong winds and gales are likely at times too - especially in the north and west. Temperatures will generally be around or a little above normal for the time of year, although as it is mid-winter, this does not exclude the possibility of some sleet and snow on higher ground in the north.

It has changed. But whats the difference between "Normal" and "close to average". Poor wording.

Gone is the above average from the previous ones.

UK Outlook for Thursday 17 Jan 2008 to Saturday 26 Jan 2008:

Thursday will start generally dry with a frost in places, especially in the north. However, rain will spread northeastwards during the day, perhaps falling as snow over northern hills. Thereafter, Friday and the weekend are expected to be mild and windy just about every where with further rain or showers. Some of these will be heavy, especially in the north and west where gale force winds are likely at times. During the following week, the weather is expected to remain very changeable with rain for most, if not all areas. It will be generally mild and windy, though there are indications that the weather may turn colder at times, especially in the north with the risk of some snow.

UK Outlook for Friday 18 Jan 2008 to Sunday 27 Jan 2008:

The end of the week is expected to be very unsettled with further rain or showers in all areas, some of these heavy, and accompanied by strong to gale force winds. It will be generally mild, but may turn colder at times in the north with the risk of some snow, especially over hills. During the weekend and into next week, there are indications that the weather should become rather less disturbed with less rain and lighter winds. At this time, the most settled conditions look like developing across southeastern areas. Thereafter, a continuing drying out of the weather seems likely as high pressure continues to build, but there is the risk of colder southeasterly winds developing bringing an increased risk of frost.

UK Outlook for Saturday 19 Jan 2008 to Monday 28 Jan 2008:

Saturday is likely to start wet and windy with some heavy rain and a risk of gales in places but conditions should turn more showery through the day. There are indications that the weather should then become rather more settled next week, especially across England and Wales. Sunny spells and showers are likely on Sunday, with high pressure building from the southwest expected to bring largely dry conditions through the rest of the week, although overnight frost and fog are likely. Further north conditions are expected to remain more unsettled with cloud and spells of rain, especially in the west. Temperatures should be around or just above normal generally, but it may become milder in the north later in the period.

The Meto further update seems to follow the 06z GFS lead ( a bit of an about turn on yesterdays forecast ) :-

UK Outlook for Sunday 20 Jan 2008 to Tuesday 29 Jan 2008:

It now looks like plenty of cloud and outbreaks of rain will spread up from the south across most parts next Sunday with more showery weather in the far north. There are indications that the weather should then become rather more settled next week, especially across England and Wales, with high pressure building from the southwest expected to bring largely dry conditions through the rest of the week, although overnight frost and fog are likely. Further north conditions are expected to remain more unsettled with a brisk westerly flow bringing cloud and spells of rain, especially in the west. Temperatures should be around normal to mild generally, but it may become cooler in the south later in the period.
