UK Outlook for Sunday 20 Jan 2008 to Tuesday 29 Jan 2008:

It now looks like plenty of cloud and outbreaks of rain will spread up from the south across most parts next Sunday with more showery weather in the far north. There are indications that the weather should then become rather more settled next week, especially across England and Wales, with high pressure building from the southwest expected to bring largely dry conditions through the rest of the week, although overnight frost and fog are likely. Further north conditions are expected to remain more unsettled with a brisk westerly flow bringing cloud and spells of rain, especially in the west. Temperatures should be around normal to mild generally, but it may become cooler in the south later in the period.

UK Outlook for Thursday 24 Jan 2008 to Saturday 2 Feb 2008:

Although unsettled weather is expected to continue through to the end of next week and into the weekend, most of the rain is expected in the north, especially the northwest, with smaller amounts in the south and east where often dry weather will dominate. Windy at times, but again the strongest winds expected in the north where gales are likely from time to time. Temperatures near or above normal with winds from the west or southwest persisting. Unsettled weather persists through into the following week with the usual mix of some wet and windy days or nights followed by brighter or clearer spells with scattered showers. The heaviest rain and strongest winds likely in the north and west, temperatures near or above normal.

UK Outlook for Saturday 26 Jan 2008 to Monday 4 Feb 2008:

Unsettled at first with a mainly northwesterly flow, much of the rain or showers affecting the northwest, the south and east much drier than of late. The showers will be wintry in the north at times. Later in the period though the trend is back towards a southwesterly flow, with southern areas again coming under threat of rain. Some of the rain will again become heavy at times, with all areas at risk. Staying quite windy throughout, but especially so in the northwest at first, and later on in the south. Temperatures will be mostly near normal early in the period, becoming above normal again later across southern Britain. Occurances of frost will be quite limited.

UK Outlook for Sunday 27 Jan 2008 to Tuesday 5 Feb 2008:

Many parts should be fine at first with some sunny spells, as high pressure is expected to be centered to the south of the UK. Northern and some western parts will be more unsettled though with cloud and outbreaks of rain as well as some strong winds, perhaps gales over northwest Scotland. It will be mild generally. However, some colder air is expected to spread across the UK from next Tuesday onwards, and this will bring showers or spells of rain, with wintry falls over hills, and perhaps to low levels in the north. It is likely to be windy at times too. The driest and sunniest conditions are most likely in the south and east. Temperatures will be near normal to rather cold after the mild start.

UK Outlook for Monday 28 Jan 2008 to Wednesday 6 Feb 2008:

A generally mild start with many parts fine, some outbreaks of rain, these most likely in the northwest. However, more unsettled and colder conditions are likely to spread southeast across the UK early in this period, bringing occasional showers or longer spells of rain to all parts through the week. The driest weather most likely in the south. Showers turning wintry at times in the north. It is likely to be windy at times too with a risk of gales in the north. Temperatures probably slightly below the seasonal average with an increasing risk of night frosts. The rather unsettled conditions probably persisting into the following week with further rain likely at times, more especially in the north, with the driest conditions in the south.

A sort of half hearted nod towards a general cool-down - although it reads like it's business as usual for us up here Stu ;)

The UKMO are certainly erring on the side of caution:

This outlook has been repeated two days in a row now. If the models still show upgrades by Sunday, expect the outlook info to change. They are being cautious.

UK Outlook for Thursday 31 Jan 2008 to Saturday 9 Feb 2008:

Through Thursday and into the weekend the UK is likely to experience a fairly cool and unsettled spell of weather with some heavy and wintry showers in many places and the risk of night-time frosts with temperatures generally a little below normal. Further snow accumulations are expected particularly over the Scottish mountains. During the following week (4th Feb) there will be a gradual return to the west or southwesterly pattern that we have seen on recent days. This will bring a slow rise in temperatures, and the most unsettled and wet weather generally confined to the north and west of the UK, with the driest and brightest spells likely in the south where strong winds are also less likely.

UK Outlook for Friday 1 Feb 2008 to Sunday 10 Feb 2008:

During Friday and into the weekend the UK is likely to experience a fairly cool and unsettled spell of weather with some heavy and wintry showers in many places and the risk of night-time frosts with temperatures generally a little below normal. Further snow accumulations are expected particularly over the Scottish mountains. During the following week (4th Feb) there will be a gradual return to the familiar west or southwesterly pattern with low pressure to the northwest of the country. This will bring a slow rise in temperatures, but also an increased risk of heavy rain and strong winds at times, particularly in the west and north. The best of any drier and brighter intervals are likely in the south and east.

UK Outlook for Monday 4 Feb 2008 to Wednesday 13 Feb 2008:

Unsettled conditions are expected through much of next week, with some wintry showers likely at first on Monday before more persistent rain is expected to spread northeastwards across all parts, with some further snow in the north. It will be windy with gales in exposed parts. It will stay wet and windy in many parts during the second half of the week, although snow should become restricted to the Scottish Highlands. looking at GFS and ECMWF it would seem they tend to favour GFS more as it makes more of the high over the country at T+240 and then beyond.
