Hi i'm trying to find out some information on the highlands town of grantown on spey, basicly i'm about to book a christmas holiday there and would be staying in the town. We are going by train to aviemore and then bus to the village so would have no transport when we are there. So what I am trying to find out is if there are mountains and ski slopes in walking distance of the town.? any help would be appreated as it is a rather large deposit that's needed. And if anybody knows about the highlands it's you lot on netweather :)

Thanks in Advance

Chris

p.s If this is in the wrong section could you move it to a section where I will still get the help I need thanks. Fancy a bit of snow this christmas .

Chris,

There is not much of anything liek that within walking distance of anywhere... even Aviemore you would not fancy walking to the range.

There are sometimes free shuttle buses though. Probably best to call the tourist information - details below;

I have spent a few Festive breaks in the area [Nethybridge and Aviemore] and used to ski the Cairngorms regularly. For Grantown I would suggest you need transport unless local walks will do you. There is a local steamtrain to Aviemore and the occasional bus but apart from that nothing. The Cairngorm ski resort is 20 miles away.

If you are interested in the weather there is a local website www.StrathspeyWeather.co.uk that you will find useful. It has links to older records of snowfall etc. also.

Regards

Nor.
