Yay! At approx 1905 this evening, whilst on my way to work, we had a light shower of sleet here in Lerwick. Temp is now just 2.5C and still falling.

:D

Why do you think I'm so frosty?

1.9c at the moment.

Well my dew points are 1c and I have clear skies, so I expect a bit of a drop in temps

as the night progresses, but it is a slow process.

The temps are falling, but it is a disappointing 7c atm.

A relatively balmy 10.0C, although im expecting a large drop between now and 1am as the skies have cleared and there not a breath of wind. Also there is water vapur on my breath which usually tells of falling temperatures (ie falling nearer the dewpoint), I will expect it to be about 7C by 1am, perhaps down to 3-4C by morning - then again I said that last night, and we didnt get below 10C!

7.4C, a frost almost certain at some point later I think.

Edit: Still dropping like a stone, 7.0.

Only dropped to 5.0C in the end, despite looking like it was on a descending mission, still rather chilly though!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
