Not a good picture, but shows how the comet looks to the naked eye :D taken from my bedroom window this evening. Second comet I've photoed this year!

It struck me that this could be seen as a modern day version of the "Star of Bethlehem" in a way. We know its a comet but you could see how ancient astronomers would have been baffled by its sudden appearance.

nice pic essan, that particular angle is similar to the view from my backgarden and using that as a guide i was able to spot it and indeed it does appear as a fuzzy star, i did try last night but the glorious rising fullish moon seemed to drown out perseus for me

This is why I like this place- I dont often contribute and often 'lurk' but its nice to come home after a hard days work and find things that are utterly enthralling weatherwise or indeed spacewise! More photos please!

btw does everyone have this?

Superb view right now with clear skies. Easily visible to the naked eye and with just a basic pair of binoculars it's even better!

"It's huge" she gasped.

Easily one of the best comets I've ever seen, and proof that big telescopes are better. I showed the kids it through my 3" refractor earlier in the evening, and it was very pretty. Through my 12" later on, it almost filled the entire field of view.

I don't know whether it's a spent force but ,as it gets larger, it appears to be dimming. Any news on it's outpourings?

look straight up, but in central London, you don't stand a chance!
yeah you are not wrong OON, but the courtyard in the old admiralty building blocks out a lot of the light pollution so next fag break i might well have a look up :drunk:

Yes, a beautifully clear sky last night and Holmes still easily visible with the naked eye. Thru good binoculars it appears as a roughly spherical "smudge" and looks a little like a globular cluster.
