Moderate rain with flakes of wet snow mixed in, I would say 30% snow, 70% rain but its better than nothing I suppose! Temp is 2.5c, did drop quite quickly at one point but seems to have become more steady.

Wales might do well out of this:) a night of lampost watching coming up no doubt. I think metoffice will hold off on tonights forecast for another hour or so to see what happens as it gets dark, they might even wait to see 12z .

I think you'll find that the MetO will give forecasts on whatever schedule they're expected to give forecasts Chris, that's their job. If the forecast evolves to events, so be it, that's what forecasting is - doing the best you can with what you've got.

Occasional sleet here now. Still no fully formed snowflakes but in the heavier pulses my velux suggests around 20% of drops have snow that is around 75% melted - so around 5% snow.

Good afternoon all

we have a mix of moderate rain with sleet mixed in and gusty winds. its really only just started here in Bedfordshire we have been lucky to have gone for most of the day with dry and a cloudy day, however with it starting to get dark and the temps starting to drop away again it would not suprise me to see wet snow falling within an hour or so.

I think metoffice has got it totally wrong for the east midlands. We are already below our minimum temp, and our area is colder than most of birmingham and west mids already and birmingham is forecasy heavy snow. Back tracks later and new warnings issued is my gut feeling. Heavy sleet here now. 2.3 deg

in the Peak area snow settled from about 1000ft up, 2-3 inches in places on the highest parts, Snake and Woodhead were only passable with care this morning, no idea now.

In the Ashford in Water area(Bakewell) it sleeted with temp at 2C at 1000ft mod-heavy sleet turning to mainly snow at times, covering on fields and car tops. Some cars outside pub in Sheldon had 1-2 inches on their roofs. People from Manchester on the walk said the very top of the A6 had slushy snow on it around 10am this morning with fields and roofs white over.

Just got back from a snow hunt trip and managed to find some on the North Yorkshire Moors near Whitby on the A169.

Bloody cold, kids through around a few wet snowballs and temp was 1C.
