Oh, there's nothing like wasting an hour when you've got masses of important things to do.....

(To the tune of - and with quite a lot of the words of - "O Little Town Of Bethlehem")

O little town of Abingdon

How still we see thee lie.

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep

The thickening clouds go by.

Yet in thy dark streets shineth

That ever-watched Street Light.

The hopes and fears of snowless years

May change, at last, tonight.

For finally an Easterly

Comes up against a front.

While mortals sleep, the SACRAs keep

Their watchful wintry hunt.

O all you rampers together,

Proclaim the glorious gifts

And praises sing to God the King

For freezing ten foot drifts.

How silently, how silently

The wondrous gift is given!

So God imparts to snow-starved hearts

The blessings of His heaven.

No ear may hear it coming,

And Radar sometimes breaks,

But up all night we geeks will fight

To spot the first white flakes.

O holy Snow of Abingdon,

Descend to us, we pray.

Cast off our frown, and come on down,

Please cover us today.

We hear the Met Office 'casters

The great glad tidings tell.

O come to us, and rescue us

from Global Warming hell.

EDIT: Curse you, Abruzzi, you got there first with an almost identical version of the first verse....while I was sweating blood trying to write the other three verses. I HATE you.

Here is a quick one I thought of

WHEN A NEW WEST IS BEST IS BORN

A ray of hope flickers in the sky

cause every chart shows a Greenland High

All accross the UK Dawns a brand new morn.

This comes to pass when a new West Is Best is born

Strange Brian, I was working on much the same thing.

A ray of hope flickers in the Sky.

What's that I see, is it a Greeny High?

All across the land we await each brand new morn.

Hoping to view, more cold synoptic porn!

While shepherds washed their socks by night

All watching ITV

The angel of the loard came down

And switched to BBC

Er I haven't quite got the hang of this yet, have I?

And there I was about to dust off my textbooks on copyright infringement......! Anyway, you had the vision and rigour to do the other three whereas I got all excited after verse one and posted it immediately in a clear case of premature interjection.

Vision and rigour....or just not knowing when to stop? You're very kind, but I regret to say that it's a clear case of less is more.

To the tune of, All Come all ye Faithful.

Oh come all ye sleet showers, sharp frosts and huge blizzards

Oh come ye, oh come ye south, to Great Britain

Come and bombard us, bury us is in white stuff.

Oh come bring winter mayhem

Oh come bring winter mayhem

Oh come bring winter mayhem

From Lerwick to Scilly.

I'm here all week...

Not strictly a carol, but with all respect and acknowledgement to the The Pogues (with the late Kirsty McColl)

It was Christmas Eve folks

In the model thread

Then John Holmes posted, ‘won't see a cold one’

Paul Sherman sang a song

of Armageddon

I turned my face away

And thought of Abingdon

Got on a lucky one

Shown by the METO

I've got a feeling

This year's for me and you

So happy Christmas

(and you as well Oon)

I can see a bitter time

When snowy dreams come true

They've got Beasts from the East

They've got Icelandic Lows

Where the wind goes right through you

And freezes your nose

When you first sited snow

Out in deepest FI

You promised a cigar

I wanted to cry

The forecasts were thoughtful

The timing was awful

When the 12z had finished

We howled out for more

WiB was swinging

grab my graupels was singing

We checked out the lampposts

Stayed up through the night

The boys of the Net Weather choir

Were singing come what may

As the charts were showing snow

For Christmas day

Coast has, in my respectful submission, raised the bar to dizzying heights. It scans perfectly and captures the raucous melancholy of the original. At the risk of sounding like a cliched reviewer of a west end play, a triumph! And it still hurts to see the words "Kirsty McColl" and "late" in the same sentence......

That is Brillant Coast I love it

Here is a quick one from me. I will do a longer one when I have more free time.

To the tune of While shephards watched..........

While we all watched the charts come out upon a Friday night

Paul came on and told us off for using a Dutch website.

Excellent, although I fear people will make their own last line up.

I'd rather like to see WB's version of 'Little Donkey' - although there's something of a misnomer in the title I feel.

My fifteen second attempt is:

Little Donkey, Little Donkey

Nine inch deep - in snow

Little Donkey, Little Donkey,

How can I measure it though, aah I know...

What it lacks in strict metre and rhyme, it more than makes up for in art I feel.

Anybody know a carol about bunnies?

My satirical 'mild' version of White Christmas:

I'm dreaming of a mild Christmas

Just like the ones we always know

When the Bartlett High glistens

and children listen

to hear south-westerlies blow

I'm dreaming of a mild Christmas

With every Christmas card I write

May the north be cloudy tonight

And may all of the South East be bright

this thread proves a number of things, some of you have very vivid imaginations, some are nuts, but whatever its nice to see a thread with a lot to laugh at rather than some other threads becoming overly serious.

Good ol Bing...

I'm dreaming of a White Xmas

With at least three feet of snow

May the icicles glisten

As NetWeather members listen

To the arrival of another Polar Low

I'm dreaming of a White Xmas

Yes I dream of one every night

Tho as the past has shown us

One would really be a bonus

But all we'll likely get is more mild **ite

Last one from me, I'm sending myself over the edge here... :D

To the tune of Mistletoe and Wine...

Xmas time, vodka and lime

Barcardi and coke washed down with white wine

Snow on my back lawn

Ice in the trees

I'm staying in to get drunk, coz it's going to freeze...

To the tune of Stop the cavalry.

Hey Mr Graupels,

Will we get some snow,

Will it be a TEITStesterly

We just wanna know,

Will we get some snow

Or another WestisBesterly,

We've had to wait so long,

For charts to get on song,

We just want a Northerly,

Tum Tum tum te tum

Tum Tum tum te tum

:D

God bless you merry GFS theres nothing you don't show.

It's nice to see at t384 theres always lots of snow

and when the MetO says its mild and wind from the South West

We can turn to the good old GFS GFS.

We can turn to the good old GFS

To the tune of Hark the Herald Angels Sing:

Hail! the solid balls of ice!

Hail! the Ice of Righteousness!

Graupel bright to all He brings,

risen with healing in His stings.

Mild weather has passed us by,

born that convection may die;

Born to raise the thunderstorm,

born to inspire the crowds

Hark! the heavy hailstorm brings

Glory to the King of Clouds
